Week 11 Part A

For the business that I work on, we utilize mainly Instagram and Facebook. We also use YouTube, but that is less of a promotional platform for us. Instagram is definitely the platform that we enjoy using the most because we see the most outcome and feedback on there.

We like to schedule most of our posts so that they go directly to both Instagram and Facebook at the same time. However, for some posts, we find that it is more beneficial to post it in real time since scheduling it limits the amount of extra things we can add to it (like links). Because of this, I will go on Instagram and post whatever it is that we need for that day. Sometimes, it will also post on Facebook since we have them linked. Other times, it only posts on Instagram and not Facebook so we will occasionally forget about Facebook. This is definitely not ideal however, I do not think that Facebook is as beneficial for us as Instagram is.

Another platform that we have considered using is TikTok. Growing up seeing the evolution of Musical.ly into TikTok, I have seen how that app has really grown into an amazing promotional took for businesses. There are many users who go around in their city and promote their favorite businesses. Considering the fact that majority of TikTok users are younger, it is a great way to spread the word about your business to an audience who may not see it otherwise. Although that is a positive thing in some ways, we also know that a lot of that age group is not our primary audience. We have found that our audience is generally 25 and older, so as useful as TikTok can be to reach younger audiences, we do not now how helpful that actually would be for our business specifically.

As I mentioned, we also post on YouTube and have seen some growth from there as well. First of all, one of our videos has over 100k views, which means that over 100k people heard of our business and started following us on our other platforms. Second, we just reached 1,000 subscribers which means that we start getting income from posting now. As of now, that is the only platform that we are really getting money from.

Social media has many drawbacks, but over time it has proven to be an incredible way to get your business out there to many different audiences who may never hear about it otherwise. We do want to eventually expand the social media that we are currently utilizing, but we need to figure out which platform would be most worth the time that it would take to set up an account and maintain consistent posting.
